In the 2024 election cycle, any conversation with MAGA voters during the campaign unveiled they were living in a post-truth reality made up of misinformation, lies, and rumors. The reality was created by an echo chamber designed to enrage them, motivating them to vote. The messaging coming from the echo chamber was so loud it shaped the conversation outside the chamber. This made it very difficult for Democratic messaging to reach voters to persuade them to support candidates, which greatly contributed to our defeat.
For the last 30 years, Republican operatives have been building an information ecosystem that has taken the form of an echo chamber that distributes talking point messages. The messages use buzz words designed to create rage and trigger their base, motivating them to vote. Once the message is created, it's packaged and distributed using the information ecosystem's network.
The information ecosystem network uses top-down focused messaging that utilizes non-traditional communication platforms to distribute content. The content is packaged as infographics or short video clips combined with a sensational headline to create viral content. Once created, the content artificially goes viral by being distributed through a network of trolls, useful idiots, and culture war profiteers. The artificial viral spreading of the content warps the news algorithms, causing it to surface more frequently in the social media feeds of unaffiliated voters. This artificial viral spread of content is supported by a coordinated symphony of conservative talking heads. The combined effort results in the message penetrating the traditional media outlets and shaping the general narrative.
Like it or not, the echo chamber works. The only political strategy I've ever seen beat the echo chamber is grassroots retail politics. This political strategy uses person-to-person neighborhood outreach to create networks of voters, inoculating them against the echo chamber messaging. The inoculation is caused by voters trusting neighbors and their personal networks more than third-party information sources and talking heads.
