The most important thing a volunteer can do to assist in electing Democrats is to contact people to find out who they support and remind them to vote. I classify voter outreach efforts as action parties under the category of political engagement. At action parties, volunteers are doing voter outreach via postcards, text messages, phone calls, and canvassing. The standing action party on the South Shore is the first Friday postcard party (FFPP).

At the monthly FFPP, volunteers help elect Democrats in battleground states by sending postcards. This FFPP effort will expand in the spring to include local outreach to the south shore Democratic base, inviting them to town committee volunteer opportunities by sending them invitation postcards. Starting in April, FFPP will be adding a new campaign to support red state Democratic committees and help them to build local grassroots networks.
Helping Democratic committees to build local grassroots networks will be a major game changer in the present political environment. The plan is to team up with a Democratic town committee in a red district and have them start doing civic engagement events with a neighborhood-based voter outreach process. The FFPP volunteers will send invites to civic engagement events and make reminder calls by text and phone to Democrats living in the red district. As a disciple of Walsh, I believe strongly the best way to win elections is grassroots local organizing like this.
This summer and fall it would be great to expand action parties to include text and phone banks at more locations. This is dependent on other town committees stepping up and on finding a suitable location to host these at. If this is something your committee is interested in, all you have to do is pick the type of party you want to host, set a date and time, find a location, and recruit volunteers.
